Kevin Thompson, bass, is an alumnus of The Juilliard School. “The voice booms, roars, rumbles through his 6’5” frame and bellows forth when he sings, even when he speaks, a Basso Profundo” (The Washington Post). Mr. Thompson was recently named one of the top prize winners of the Leiderkranz Competition 2009. This season he will make his operatic debuts with New York City Opera as Martel in Trouble Island as they celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first world premiere. He will sing Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd with Augusta Opera and Osmin in Die Entführung with New Jersey Summer Opera. He has performed Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Grandpa Moss in The Tender Land, Jupiter in Eccles Semele, Colline in La Bohème, II Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, the Jailer in Tosca, Frank Maurrant in Street Scene, and Bailli in Werther. He was the bass soloist in Verdi’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Hadyn’s The Creation, Lord Nelson Mass, and Missa Brevis. He has sung Dubois’s Seven Last Words of Christ and Stravinsky’s Les Noces, in Russian. Mr. Thomas received awards from the Paul Robeson Competition, Rosa Ponselle Competition, National Symphony Competition, and International Competitions Don Giovanni and the Meistersinger.
