PIANISTS 2009
Jia Shih grew up in a musical family with the strong influence of her grandfather, a renowned conductor in China. At the age of four, Jia began studying piano with Professor Ying Tan and Professor Meisheng Mai. She won Second Prize in the Zhujiang Piano Competition in Guangdong for Young Pianists in 1992 and Honorable Mention in the Xinghai Piano Competition in China for Young Pianists in 1996. In 1997 she was admitted to the Xinghai Music High School, where she studied piano with Professor Meisheng Mai and Instructor Xiaopei Zhu. In 2003, she was awarded a piano scholarship and began piano studies at the Central Conservatory of Music under the direction of the renowned composer and professor, Zhihong Guo. She was a prizewinner of the 3rd Piano Concerto Competition at CCOM in 2004, a participant in the “Horowitz” Piano Competition, and received First Prize and Best Performance Award in the National “Haisiman” Piano Competition in China in 2005. In 2007, she received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Central Conservatory of Music and was awarded admission to its graduate program for piano performance with exemption of examination. She is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree in piano with Professor Zhihong Guo.
