PIANISTS 2009
Karen Hakobyan, pianist and composer, a native of Armenia, has received numerous awards, both for performance and composition. He has won first prize in the Pinault and Armenian Legacy Pianists International Piano Competitions and first prize in the Four Corners, Tourgee DeBose and the Fite National Piano Competitions among many others. Mr. Hakobyan is also a winner of the 2004 ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Competition. Having his Carnegie Hall debut recital in October 2003, he has played as a soloist with the Summer Arts Festival Orchestra, Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, the University of Utah “Philharmonia”, the Salt Lake Symphony as well as the New American Symphony. He has presented solo recitals in Armenia, Germany, France and the United States. Some of his festival performance highlights include: the “Lille International Piano(s) Festival” in France, “The Pianist as Composer” Festival at Mannes College of Music in 2008 and “The Mendelssohn Salon Yearlong Festival” in 2009 and “Keys to the Future” Contemporary Music Concert Series in 2009 in New York City. Mr. Hakobyan is currently pursuing a Professional Studies Diploma at Mannes College of Music studying with Dr. Arkady Aronov and is residing in New York City.
