Natasha Flores, mezzo-soprano, winner of the 2008 encouragement award from the Loren L. Zachary Society Vocal Competition, grew up in Southern California. She received her Bachelor of Arts at the University of San Diego. While in San Diego she performed with local companies including San Diego State University Opera (Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti) and Lyric Opera San Diego (Jenny Diver in The Beggar’s Opera). After receiving a scholarship, Ms. Flores began her Masters of Music at the University of Southern California in 2005. While at USC she played Madame de la Haltiere in Cendrillon and Idamante in Mozart’s Idomeneo. Ms. Flores became a member of the Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program in 2006 and made her Los Angeles Opera debut as Nutrice in Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea. She spent two summers as an apprentice at Santa Fe Opera and covered roles in Cendrillon and Tan Dun’s Tea. In the summer of 2008, Natasha worked with the Merola Young Artist Program at San Francisco Opera where she performed Mrs. Herring in Britten’s Albert Herring. The Opera Tattler said, “Natasha Flores has both warmth and depth, she made the most of Mrs. Herring, and shone in Act III”.
